A Legion (レギオン?) is the most basic unit of Lilies in a Garden. Joining a Legion is highly encouraged, but not required. There is no maximum limit to the number of Lilies that may join a Legion, but in order to formally register a Legion, it must contain at least nine members. Some Gardens have Legions set up that Lilies may apply to join, while other Gardens such as Yurigaoka Girls Academy, allow students to form Legions themselves.
Legions are primarily assigned combat-related tasks as a group, which makes it imperative that each Legion have at least one Lily in each of the three positions (ポジション?). There are three positions on the battlefield from which a Lily can attack and operate:
- Attacking Zone (AZ) - the front lines
- Tactical Zone (TZ) - midline
- Back Zone (BZ) - position furthest from the enemy
Most Lilies have a primary and secondary zone from which they operate, but more skilled Lilies may operate from all three zones.
One benefit of belonging to a Legion is the ability to perform the Neunwelt Tactic (?). This is a battle strategy in which at least nine Lilies channel their Magie into a physical sphere and slam it into the enemy. Developed by Yurigaoka Girls Academy, this is a difficult tactic to perform and requires coordination among participants, which is why it has a higher success rate when performed among Legion members. However, as shown in Episode 12 of the Assault Lily Bouquet anime, it is possible for Lilies of different Legions to participate.
There are two ways to create a Legion: the "instructor-approved" system, in which students gather their own members and the instructor approves them, and the "Top Legion" system, in which the Garden selects its members in advance. The latter is introduced in gardens where the quality of the Lily's affiliation is uneven. [1] Incidentally, in the case of the Top Legion, if instructor becomes dies in battle, she can no longer be appointed, and the Garden loses its function as a garden. [2]
